The Holy Korean MartyrsThe Holy Korean Martyrs (Sept. 20) gave up their lives in witness to Christ during persecutions in 1839, 1846, 1866, and 1867. During this time 103 Koreans died for the Gospel. Christianity in Korea, both Catholic and Protestant is today, in terms of membership, one of the fastest growing and vibrant in the world. Teh martyrs included Fr. Andrew Kim Taegon, first Korean priest, and the lay apostle Paul Chong Hasand. The largest number of those killed were members of the laity. "They consecrated the rich beginnings of the Church in Korea with their blood." |
