One Way to Receive More from the Scripture
Readings Proclaimed at Mass

P…Prepare
R…Read
A…Attend
Y...Yield

Prepare by studying the Bible. The less familiar we are with the Scriptures we hear at Mass, the more likely we are to be distracted rather than fed by what we hear.

Read the Sunday Mass readings beforehand. You can find these in the previous week's bulletin or in a variety of daily reflection books, such as the Word Among Us , or online.

Attend to what is being proclaimed to us at Mass. Listen intently, lean forward, incline your ear AND heart to what is being read or said. Pay attention when certain passages jump out at you and seem to speak to your current situation. What may God be asking you to do in response to what you have heard?

Yield to what God is asking of you and respond with a "yes." Every Eucharist that we celebrate is a renewal of the covenant between God and us. God waits for us to respond with our lives and hearts.
